Sigurd Red Blend
|GRAPE SYRAH, GRENACHE, PRIMITIVO ||ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 14.5%|
|VINTAGE: 2017 ||REGION: BAROSSA VALLEY|
This big Australian GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend made famous by the Rhone region in France) by rising star winemaker Dan Graham was one of the highlights of a recent tasting so we had to bring it into the range. It boasts huge cherry flavours backed by cloves, cedar and a hint of herbasciousness. Whilst being suitably boozy at 14.5% ABV, it has a fresh acidity throughout which provides excellent balance.
Having cut his teeth working for other wineries, Dan started Sigurd Wines in 2012, naming it after his Norwegian great grandfather who emigrated to Australia in the 1910s. Dan focuses on low intervention winemaking using natural yeasts and with no fining.
A great wine to pair with richer dishes, try this with ribeye steak, mushroom sauces, and umami-laden stews.
