Homestead - Big Basin
|ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 13.9%||GRAPE: MOURVEDRE, GRENACHE, CARIGNAN, SYRAH, CABERNET SAUVIGNON|
|VINTAGE: 2014||REGION: BOULDER CREEK, CALIFORNIA|
Big Basin's vineyards are in the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains just off California's coast. With only ten acres of land to farm, they've focused on small but high quality production of wines that reflect the majestic beauty of their surroundings.
The Homestead is now at a perfect age to drink, having spent six years in bottle. The red berries, blackcurrant and rose associated with its youth are still very evident, but now share the stage with developed flavours of cedar, coffee, liquorice and raisin, all accompanied by age-softened tannins all the way to the finish. Yummy.
This is a wine best decanted and served alongside rich, flavoursome food such as beef with pepper or mushroom sauce, hearty casseroles or just drunk slowly next to a fireplace.
