Eekhoring - Kleine Wijn Koöp
ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 13.5% | GRAPE: CINSAULT, SHIRAZ, PINOTAGE |
---|---|
VINTAGE: 2018 | REGION: SWARTLAND, SOUTH AFRICA |
This lovely South African red is called Eekhoring - Afrikaans for 'squirrel' - probably because it is made in incredibly small quantities by a small team led by local winemaker Wynand Grobler and his wife, Anya. By limiting production to a couple of thousand bottles per vintage, the Groblers ensure the quality of their output remains exceptionally high.
Their red is a light to medium-bodied blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Pinotage with bright flavours of strawberry, blackcurrant and a touch of black pepper.
A versatile food wine - this is a good shout for barbecues, mixed nuts and olives, roasted veg and pizza.
