As should be expected from a Chateauneuf du Pape, this is a HUGE wine. Big dark berries lead to toast and cedar which brings in fig, prune and finally beefy, leathery flavours.
What really sold us on the Vieux Chevalier (Old Knight) is just how long the flavours stay with you after a mouthful - its warm, boozy finish goes on far longer than expected without ever becoming acrid or bitter. A very impressive feat and a sign of excellent winemaking.
Pair with any hearty meal, or drink in front of a fire after running through the forest like a wolf.
